Press Conference at Roseville Ave School (NEWARK) to Address Negative Impact of School Closings
The Roseville Avenue Elementary School Press Conference/Rally is only one of continuous fights against the aggressive actions of closing schools in places, such as Newark, Statewide and Nationally. Urban Districts continue to disrupt, dismantle and destroy quality education, hopeful students and our community schools, without providing evidence their "implied" strategies are creating better student achievement. Instead the consequences have often been disastrous for our African American and Latino students with increases in violence, disruption of neighborhood schools and communities, loss of veteran teachers, and little academic improvement. Students, parents, and community members have been stripped of their right to participate in decisions, be engaged as stakeholders and respected as the voices of those who both matter and care! This is OUR city, these are OUR schools, these are OUR children, this IS OUR FUTURE and WE MUST use OUR VOICE to say "NO!"
